Wilma Henrietta Hommel, known lovingly to all as “Willy,” passed away on August 20, 2026, at her home in Port St. Lucie, Florida, at 92 years of age, in the arms of her husband, Franklin Hommel. She was born on November 16, 1933, in the Bronx, New York and she lived a vibrant life surrounded by the people she loved most.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Hering, in 1977. She is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Franklin John Hommel. Her legacy of love lives on through her seven children: Len Hering (wife, Sharon), Christine (Hering) LoGiudice (husband, Richie), Rich Hering (wife, Jill), Louanne (Hommel) Bruno (husband, Pete), Debbie (Hommel) Steele (husband, Tracy), Melissa (Hommel) Lovelock (husband, Ed), and Tricia (Hommel) Hendricks (husband, Les). She was also the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. We would be remiss if we did not mention she leaves behind her devoted and loyal dog, Freckles, whom she loved so very much.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. Witty, outgoing, and always ready with a smile, she was fondly known for her favorite playful phrases like “do-hickey” and “whatchamacallit.” A wonderful cook, she delighted her loved ones with traditional German dishes that celebrated her childhood roots. Her exceptional talent for painting lives on through the cherished Christmas decorations and whimsical animals she lovingly created for others.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Haisley Funeral Home, located at 2041 Bayshore Blvd in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
