Thomas “Tom” Rue Lane Kindred Sr.
Dedicated public servant and Fort Pierce native Tom Kindred Sr. passes at 94.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Tom Kindred Sr. on September 24, 2025.
The son of Thomas Jerome Kindred & Maragret Elon Kindred, Tom was born in Ft. Pierce, on December 6, 1930. Tom attended school in St. Lucie County, graduating from Dan McCarty High School in 1949.
After graduating, he eventually joined the U.S. Air Force, serving 4 years at Strategic Air Command. Following his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Florida, graduating in 1959 with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation.
Following graduation from the University of Florida, Tom returned home to marry Ft. Pierce native, Carolyn Jo Kicliter. Celebrating 65 years of marriage in 2024, Carolyn passed away March 2, 2025.
Tom began his professional career in 1959 as the Superintendent of Recreation in Moss Point, Mississippi. Following his 7 years of public service in Moss Point he returned home to St. Lucie Co. to assume the role of St. Lucie County Superintendent of Recreation. Tom retired from St. Lucie County in 1996 as County Administrator.
During Tom’s 30 years of service to St Lucie County he directed, facilitated and administered the building and management of numerous sports, recreational and county facilities. From tennis and racquetball courts, baseball and softball fields, a civic center, boardwalks and beach accesses, community and recreation centers, campground and golf course - Tom’s work in the community is enjoyed daily by St. Lucie County residents.
Beyond his years of public service, Tom enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren, playing golf and socializing with friends at Lake Forest. He is survived by his daughter Carole Lane Kindred, son Thomas Rue Lane Kindred Jr., daughter in law Mary Koblegard Kindred and grandchildren Mary Sloan Kindred Courtney and Thomas Rue Lane Kindred III.
Though he may have left this world, Tom’s spirit will continue to shine through the lives he impacted. In honoring his memory, let us strive to carry forward his mission of public and community service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church located in Historic Downtown Fort Pierce.
Services: Visitation will be held Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park.
