Stephen Martin Mattes, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Born on July 18, 1951, in San Francisco, California, Stephen lived a life characterized by dedicated service to his country, steadfast devotion to his family, and an adventurous spirit.

On June 25, 1988, Stephen married the love of his life, Linda, in Hurst, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lifelong memories spanning 38 wonderful years of marriage.

A proud veteran, Stephen served honorably for 25 years in the United States Coast Guard, retiring in 1993 with the rank of ADC Chief (Aviation Machinist's Mate Chief). Following his distinguished military career, Stephen channeled his expertise and leadership into entrepreneurship as the owner and operator of M&S Enterprises, a marine offshore support company, which he successfully ran for 21 years prior to his retirement.

Faith and fellowship were central to Stephen's life. He was a faithful member of Family Church Lakewood Park and an active member of the Orlando Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA). Stephen had a passionate love for the outdoors, enjoying gold prospecting activities with his GPAA group, as well as embarking on memorable RV trips and camping adventures across the country.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Mattes of Fort Pierce, FL; his loving daughter, Ariel Mattes (Rolando Armas) of Kimberly, AL; his cherished grandson, Liam Armas of Kimberly, AL; and his dear brothers, Dave Mattes of Tooele, UT, and Rich Mattes (Anita) of Rocklin, CA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Mattes; his mother, Leila Mattes; and his sister, Kathy Watkins.
