Shirley Loylyne McGhie

Shirley Loylyne McGhie, affectionately known as “Jean”, was born on April 21, 1940 in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Egbert Craddock and Ameline Bogle. Jean passed on January 30, 2026 at home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

She migrated to London, England in 1960, where she married her teenage sweetheart, Vincent McGhie, on October 29, 1960. Jean worked as a seamstress while in Jamaica, England and New York. She also worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant in New York and Florida. She attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Port St Lucie, Florida. When she could no longer attend the services, she would watch them on the television.

A woman of many talents and interests, Jean enjoyed gardening (she had a ‘green thumb’). She also enjoyed playing Ludi, and ‘scratch’-Lotto, loved music and dancing. Two of her favorite musical artists were Al Green and Shaggy.

Jean was always fashionable in dress, and her hair was always ‘on point’ (neatly styled). She was a kind, sweet, loving, gentle, and encouraging person whose smile and laugh lit up the room. She was the thread of love that held the fabric of our family together.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent McGhie and stepson, Lloyd McGhie. Survived by daughters, Michelle McGhie, Marlyn McGhie-Duncan, and Sophia McGhie; son-in-law, Carl Duncan; grandchildren, Savona McGhie, Winston Duncan, Zakiya McGhie, Nevill Duncan, Jaren Ellis, and Tevon Ellis; great-grandchild, Savona Journee McGhie; siblings, Alpheus “Hugh” Parkes, Marvalyn “Sandra” Coote, Franklyn Craddock, Kathleen “Elsie” Oliphant, and Alexander “Busha” Craddock.

Services:  Visitation will be held on February 20, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.  Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
