Sherren “Sherry” Johns, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on August 16, 2026, at the age of 83.
Sherren McLaughlan Johns was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 28, 1943. Her mom wanted to name her Sherry but the hospital said it had to be a “proper name”, so she named her Sherren. She married the love of her life, Larry Johns, on October 21, 1961, in Warren, Michigan. Together, they shared nearly 65 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, family, and countless memories.
Sherry spent her life caring for others. She was a devoted homemaker and foster mother, with a special love for newborn babies. Her nurturing heart and generous spirit touched the lives of many children and families throughout the years.
After Larry retired, Sherry and Larry moved from Michigan to Florida in October 2000. They made their home in Port St. Lucie, where they lived in the same house together from the time they moved until Sherry’s passing.
Sherry was a lifelong Lutheran and looked forward to the day she would meet her Lord. Her faith, family, and home were at the center of her life.
She had many interests and enjoyed painting, bowling, singing, playing the organ, and dancing. She loved her plants and had a special fondness for hummingbirds and butterflies. She also enjoyed shopping for dresses and shoes, making fudge for Christmas, playing cards with her brother Joe and sister-in-law Judy, and playing dice games with her grandchildren.
Above all, Sherry treasured her family. She is survived by her husband, Larry Johns of Port St. Lucie, Florida; her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; her younger brother, Joseph McLaughlan of New Port Richey, Florida; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her younger sisters, Margo and Lori.
Sherry will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to her family, her compassion for children, her sense of fun, and the warmth she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her. Her memory will live on through the many people she loved and cared for.
A Gathering will be held at Lighthouse Chapel, 6681 NW Selvitz Road, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34983, on August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sherry’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting her deep love for babies and children, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause close to her heart.
Sherry’s life was a gift to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered until the day her family is reunited with her again.
