Richard Keith "Dick" Boyd, beloved husband, father, uncle and friend, passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 93. Richard was born on December 14, 1932, at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange NJ. He was the son of Arthur Woodruff “Wood” Boyd and Jessie Edna Boyd and was raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
Richard graduated from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA with a B.S. in Music Education in January 1955. Richard used his musical education and training throughout his life, performing and singing in numerous plays and choirs throughout NJ, Georgia, Illinois, Texas and Florida, as well as working as Choir Director in many of those states. But Richard followed in his father’s footsteps after graduating from college when he went to work for Swift & Company as a salesman in 1955. That decision was fortuitous as Richard ascended the corporate ladder through many relocations until he retired as Director of Marketing for Reichhold Chemicals in 1994. Together, Richard and his father Wood worked for Swift for 101 years.
Richard married his true love Helen Williams on August 20, 1955, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, PA. Richard and Helen lived in many states during their marriage. They retired to Ocean Village in Fort Pierce after living in Naperville, IL for the previous 20 years. Richard and Helen enjoyed music, reading, and traveling together, particularly during retirement. But they always loved returning to their “paradise” at OV on Hutchinson Island.
If you knew Richard, you knew he never met a stranger. If “people person” was defined in the dictionary, you would see his name next to it. Richard spent his retirement years volunteering his time and energies to various interests, including the OV POA, various chorales and The Sunrise Theater.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Helen Boyd, parents Wood and Jessie Boyd, sister Woodra Keene, and cousin Audrey Napp. Richard is survived by his daughter Woodra Boyd (Jeanne Seesselberg) of Montgomery, Texas and his son Keith Boyd (Mark Lindenmayer) of Dallas, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Elizabeth Harris for her loving and devoted friendship and care to both Richard and Helen during their final years.
A Memorial Service will be held at a date and time to be announced later.
