Nancy (Nan) A. Sleight

September 14, 1945 — October 27, 2025

Port Saint Lucie, Florida

Nancy (Nan) A. Sleight, née Nardiello, passed away peacefully at her home in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on October 27, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born on September 14, 1945, in West Haverstraw, New York, Nan was the beloved daughter of Charles P. Nardiello and Catherine Anne Nardiello (née Swart). She grew up surrounded by family and friends who cherished her warmth, wit, and generous spirit.

Nan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College and her Master of Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Her passion for literature and education shaped a long and meaningful career as an English teacher, where she inspired generations of students with her love of learning and her compassion for others.

In August 1968, she married her husband, Curtis B. Sleight, and together they began a beautiful journey that spanned more than five decades.

The couple first lived in Baltimore, Maryland, before settling in Marlboro, New York, where both devoted their careers to education—Nan as an English teacher and Curt as a guidance counselor at Marlboro Middle School. There, they raised their three children: Christopher C. Sleight (Siw), Courtney B. Brown (née Sleight), and Laurel T. Sleight (Leanne).

After retiring in 2003, Nan and Curt moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Family was always at the heart of Nan’s life, and nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with those she loved. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Rebecca and Amanda Sleight, Ashley, Matthew, and Daniel Brown, and Heston and Colton Sleight.

Nan lived life with a true zest for adventure and an unwavering kindness that touched everyone she met. She was active in her community, always the first to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement. Her love for travel took her around the world—from Paris to Norway, from Dubai to India—and she cherished every moment spent exploring new places with family and friends.

Those who knew Nan will remember her not only for her generosity and laughter, but for the way she lived her values; love, kindness, integrity, and joy. She set a standard for her family that continues to guide and inspire them every day.

To her loved ones, Nan was more than a wife, mother, and grandmother—she was a confidante, a role model, and a soulmate. Her light, compassion, and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

A celebration of Nan’s life will be held at a later date in Port St. Lucie, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local charity of your choice in her memory—reflecting Nan’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
