Melinda G. Lancaster Fair

Jul 22, 1958 — Sep 20, 2026

Melinda G. Lancaster Fair born July 22, 1958, passed away September 20, 2026, surrounded by family.

There are some people whose absence changes everything. Melinda was one of those people. She wasn’t simply a wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend… she was the heart of our family. She was the person you called when you were happy, when you were upset, when you needed advice, or when you just had a long drive ahead of you and wanted someone to keep you company. You could talk to Mom for hours about absolutely nothing and somehow hang up feeling better than you did before.

Her children and grandchildren were her entire world. She didn’t just love her family—she lived for them. Nothing made her happier than having everyone together. Holidays, dinners, birthdays, or an ordinary day were better simply because Mom was there. And if Mom was there, there was probably food. She loved to cook and loved feeding people even more. Making sure everyone else was taken care of was simply who she was. She worried about everyone, sometimes more than she worried about herself.

That enormous heart extended to animals, too. If there was a stray animal nearby, chances were good that Mom had already fed it, worried about it, and practically adopted it before anyone else even knew it existed.

But anyone who knew Melinda knows we couldn’t describe her without talking about her sense of humor. Mom was funny, sarcastic, and completely unfiltered when she wanted to be. She loved saying the most ridiculous or inappropriate things she could think of just to watch your face. The more shocked you looked, the harder she laughed. And she could take a joke just as well as she gave one. Some of our favorite memories are simply of laughing with her—and sometimes laughing at her, which she loved just as much.

She was also famously frugal. So famously, in fact, that she became known as “Frugal Mins.” She could find a deal anywhere, stretch a dollar farther than anyone we knew, and would almost certainly have something to say about how much we’re spending on her now. We can practically hear her. That was Mom. She found happiness in things other people might overlook. She loved family gatherings, cooking, animals, conversations, laughter, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved.

Her illness came suddenly and was devastatingly rare. We never imagined that our time with her would end this way or this soon. There are no words that adequately describe the emptiness her passing has left behind.

How do you say goodbye to the person you called about everything? How do you celebrate another holiday and not expect her to walk through the door? How do you pick up the phone and remember that the person who would have talked to you the entire drive isn’t there to answer? We don’t know yet. What we do know is that we were incredibly lucky to have her.

Melinda leaves behind her loving husband, two daughters, three grandchildren, her brother, and so many people whose lives are better because she was part of them.

Her grandchildren will grow up hearing her stories. We’ll make her recipes. We’ll repeat her ridiculous sayings. We’ll laugh about the things she did. We’ll think of her whenever someone finds an unbelievable bargain, feeds a stray animal, makes far too much food for a family gathering, or says something completely inappropriate just to get a reaction.

And in those moments, Mom will still be here. We would give anything for one more phone call, one more family dinner, one more holiday, one more laugh, and one more chance to tell her how much we love her.

But if love could have kept her here, Melinda would have lived forever. And in the hearts of the people who loved her, she will.
