Melanie Michele Carter, 52, died September 9, 2019 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of Fort Pierce, Florida.
Melanie graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School. At the age of 18 she went to work for the Saint Lucie County Tax Collectors Office where she started out working the counter as a clerk and worked her way up to the Chief Operating Officer. After 31 years of employment there she knew the ins and outs of the office. Before retirement, she was presented with the inaugural customer service award which was named after her and will always hold her name. She always worked several jobs at once. At one time she worked at Men’s Rags in Fort Pierce and was the co-owner of Clowning Around with Tootle & Doodle doing birthday parties and special events. Melanie was a very loving and kindhearted person who would go out of her way to help others.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Carter of Fort Pierce, FL; father & mother, William & Joyce Crooks; brothers, Mark (Donna) Crooks and Brian (Susan) Crooks both of Fort Pierce, FL and Brad (Suzie) Crooks of Hawkinsville, GA; stepson, Rob (Emilie) Carter of Lexington, KY; granddaughters, Jordan and Savannah Carter both of Lexington, KY and 2 very special friends, Susan Reid and Mike Abraham. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank & Burrell Hartsfield and Walter & Frances Crooks and her wonderful nephew, Shaun Crooks.
Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 5-8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. A service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
