Obituary

Matthew Sawyer Gearhart, age 34, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 30, as the result of a tragic accident.

Born in Stuart, Florida, on June 28, 1992, Matthew spent his entire life in Fort Pierce, surrounded by his loving family and many dear friends.

Matthew's greatest passions were sports and music. He was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. He also loved live music and enjoyed attending concerts and music festivals. A dedicated fan of Phish, he found great joy in the music and community that surrounded the band.

Matthew worked at the Square Grouper beginning in 2019, where he became a valued member of the team. Over the years, he formed lasting friendships with many coworkers and was well known and appreciated by regular customers. The relationships he built there brought him great happiness and became an important part of his life.

Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Jeff and Sharon Gearhart; his brother, Joseph Gearhart; his maternal grandfather, David Kuenz of Orlando, Florida; his uncles, David (Nancy) Kuenz of Rome, Georgia, Jim Kuenz of Hiram, Georgia, and Mark (Tammay) Gearhart of Martin, Georgia; and his aunts, Beth Croucher (Dave Lidke) of Golden, Colorado, Jane Kuenz (Shelton Waldrep) of Portland, Maine, Leanne (Steve) Hahn of Plant City, Florida, and Susan (Bo) Parker of Monroe, Georgia.

Matthew had a quiet, gentle spirit and a kind heart. He will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, and the love he shared with those closest to him. His family and friends will miss him deeply and cherish his memory always.

A gathering for family and friends will be held at Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce on Saturday, October 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am.
