Mary Edith “Edie” Smith, née Lane, of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, in her hometown of Fort Pierce. She was born on May 30, 1952, in Fort Pierce, where she would build a beautiful life surrounded by family, friends, and a community she loved.

Edie graduated from Vero Beach High School before continuing her education at Indian River State College, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing. She went on to dedicate more than 30 years of her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse, including many years serving patients in the Emergency Room at Raulerson Hospital. Her compassion, strength, and dedication to helping others were a reflection of the person she was in every part of her life.

On September 10, 1975, Edie married the love of her life, Robert “Danny” Smith, in Fort Pierce. Together, they shared more than 50 years of marriage, building a family and a lifetime of memories.

Edie had a true zest for life and an adventurous spirit. She loved being outdoors, especially fishing and mowing the yard. She enjoyed cooking and was always excited to discover and try new recipes. She found joy in tending to their honey bees and growing plants, and she was never afraid to try something new. She loved skiing and scuba diving and embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Above all, Edie loved her family. Her family meant everything to her, and her grandchildren brought her immense joy. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, her ability to laugh and have fun, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday—a time that reflected what mattered most to Edie: family, togetherness, good food, laughter, and making memories.

Edie was strong in her faith and knew Jesus. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in Heaven, rejoicing with the loved ones who went before her. Her faith was an important part of who she was and continues to be a source of comfort to those who loved her.

Edie is survived by her devoted husband of more than 50 years, Robert “Danny” Smith; her children, Rebecca Smith, Meradeth Smith, and David Smith and his wife, Nicole; her beloved grandchildren, Emma Smith, Jake Smith and his girlfriend, Adriana, and Greyson Smith; as well as many cherished family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close.

She was preceded in death by her parents, multiple siblings, and other precious family members who welcomed her home.

Edie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend. Her adventurous spirit, infectious laughter, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family will never be forgotten. Her life leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, faith, and memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

A gathering will be held at Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A service will be held at 4:00 PM.
