Mary Baum, formerly of Enfield and Somers CT passed away peacefully with her husband at her side in Saint Lucie, Florida on July 17, 2026. She was born in Mansfield, OH on July 9,1940 to Andrew and Mary Kovach (Miles). She moved with her family to Tiffin, OH in 1951 where she graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1958. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James, and their children Dr. Michael Baum and his wife Denise of Pomfret CT, Karin Jackson and her husband Dennis of Guilford CT, and Corey Baum of Enfield CT. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dr. Kristen Xeller, Michael Baum, Matthew Baum, Gunnar Jackson and Brigitte Jackson and three step grandchildren Kyle, Craig, and Jamie Jackson as well as four great grandchildren, Kennedy Xeller, Liah Xeller, Hugo Baum and Gwynne Baum in addition to many cousins, nieces, nephews and her aunt Dorothy Doyle.

She was predeceased by her father Andrew Kovach, mother Mary Higgs, step father Winford Higgs, sister Judith Frederick, and brother Andrew Lewis Kovach.

While a resident of Enfield Mary was active in numerous organizations including the Jaycee Wives where she served as president, Friendship House where she served on the Board of Directors and the Enfield chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was active in the Hazardville United Methodist Church teaching Sunday school, serving as an advisor for the MYF and singing in the church choir. She was also a member of the Enfield Community Chorus.

She was briefly employed by Eli Lilly shortly after the opening of the Enfield, CT facility but gave up that position to stay at home while her children were still in school. Later she served as the Administrative Assistant at the Hazardville United Methodist Church where, over a twenty-year career, she worked with six different pastors.

Mary loved to swim and while still in high school participated in a water ballet group with several of her classmates. She loved teaching her children and grandchildren how to swim and dive and loved going to the beach. She also loved to take cruises with family and friends. She would help make the arrangements for girls-only Caribbean cruises with a group of her sorority sisters. She also enjoyed traveling and took many trips throughout the United States and enjoyed watching sporting events especially Ohio State football and the UCONNN women’s basketball team.

Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
