Marta Cano

January 1, 1956 — April 3, 2022

Marta M. Cano was born on January 1, 1956 in Harlingen, Texas. Her father and mother, Jose & Maria Muñoz, were migrant farmers and would move from state to state to pick fruits and vegetables to make enough money to support their growing family. She was one of 12 children.

In sixth grade, Marta dropped out of school to work in the field full time. It was there she met the love of her life, Armando Cano. Armando was also a migrant farm worker. At the age of seventeen, she married Armando on November 25, 1973. They continued to move from state to state in search of work. They had three children, Armando Jr, Johnny Joe and Cecile Nicole. They eventually settled in Fort Pierce, Florida, where they began to own and operate fruit stands in Stuart and Vero Beach.

Although Marta dropped out of school at an early age, she was smart. She ran the business and was in charge of the finances. She did hard labor in the fields, came home to take care of her children, and also had dinner on the table every night. She was an amazing woman, able to truly do it all. And never complained – not once.

She is predeceased by her mother, Maria Luisa Muñoz, her sisters Mary Lou Muñoz and Jessica Muñoz, along with her brother, Jesse Muñoz, and her father, Jose Muñoz.

Survivors include her husband, Armando Cano, her three children: Armando Cano Jr, Johnny Joe Cano and Cecile Nicole Gamez, her four grandchildren: Benicio Alejandro Gamez, Isabella Maria Gamez, Juan Carlos Cano, and Luna Luisa Cano and her eight siblings: Raul Muñoz of Harlingen, Texas; Eva Ruiz of Los Fresnos, TX; Adan Muñoz of Jerome, ID; Sergio Muñoz of Harlingen, TX; Gloria Anciso of Harlingen, TX; Daniel Muñoz of Harlingen TX; Bobby Muñoz of Clinton, NC; and David Muñoz of Austin, TX.

Her hobbies included anything that pertained to her grandchildren: cooking for them, attending soccer games & school functions, and doing special projects with them for each holiday.

She passed peacefully in the early hours of April 3, 2022. She will be missed immensely by her family and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will forever be in our hearts.
