Maria Olivia
Torrico Hurtado
Jan 20, 1945 — Oct 2, 2026
Maria Olivia died on October 2 of complications from Parkinson’s. Marioly, as she was known, was born in 1945 in the small town of Charagua, Bolivia. Her family later moved to the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia where she was raised with a brother, William, and a sister, Sonia.
She was an excellent student, became Queen of the Carnival, and went on to graduate from business school. She married Mario Andrade, an executive with Gulf Oil, and they lived in Japan, Korea, Nigeria, Taiwan, and the United States. During that time Marioly raised two children, Victor and Maria Duanne, modeled in fashion shows, and took up painting and ikebana, both of which she became very accomplished. Mario and Marioly subsequently returned to Santa Cruz and built a luxury condominium complex called Euskadi. Their marriage ended in 1998 and on a visit to the United States Marioly met her to be husband Paul Desborough. They married on the cruise ship SS Norway and sailed off on a honeymoon with family and friends. The ship returned to port, but the honeymoon never ended. After a brief stay in Philadelphia, where Marioly refined her art skills and became a US citizen, they moved to Ocean Village on Hutchinson Island, Florida. Over the next 25 years they bought, redecorated, and sold condos both as residences and for investment purposes. They cruised, traveled to Bolivia where Marioly still had family and property, and vacationed with friends in Blue Ridge Mountains. Most importantly Marioly was a wonderful grandmother to seven grandchildren who lived in New Hampshire, Florida, and Bolivia. Although she was a sophisticated world traveler, her heart was always at home with her family. She was a dearly loved Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Wife.
