Margaret Sue Smith Longworth (Margi Sue) of Port St. Lucie, FL, born February 26, 1940, in Bellcraft, Kentucky, passed peacefully in her sleep on October 5, 2025, at the age of 85.
On February 5, 1966 she married the love of her life, Charles F. Longworth, in Fairborn, OH at the Church of God. They celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Margaret loved her family immensely, and she is survived by her husband Charles (Chuck) Longworth, her son Bryan Longworth and his wife Jessica of Ft. Pierce, FL, and her son Jeremy Longworth of Port St. Lucie, FL. She was known as Mamaw to her grandchildren Elliott Longworth and Laurel Centrone of W. Virginia, Joshua Longworth of Palm Bay, FL, and Victoria Amato of NY. Her living siblings are Ruth and (Buster) Fugate of Fairborn, OH, Elizabeth and (Bill) Mackey of Kennesaw, GA, and Katherain Smith of Cleveland, TN as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leona Ellis and Hewey Smith of Whitesburg, KY and siblings James, Herbert, Denny Ray, Huey, Ruby June Smith, and Geraldine Virgina Haynes.
Margaret served as secretary and bookkeeper for Palm Vista Church of God Church and School and in ministry alongside her husband at Covenant Tabernacle Outreach Center as co-founder, pianist, and Bible teacher.
Her hobbies included her love for chronicling the ancestry and genealogy of her family history. She continued her education while in her 40s and graduated with her AA degree from IRCC and her bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida Atlantic University. She taught Language Arts and ESOL for over 24 years in the St. Lucie County school system and served as an adjunct professor with Indian River State College. She was a member of the Florida League of Teachers and was awarded Teacher of the Year twice. Margaret loved teaching and made an impression on thousands of students who loved her dearly.
She was a Proverbs 31 woman of God and loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, soul, and strength.
Her hope was in Christ alone and she made that known in her life.
Three of her favorite sayings were: “I was born ready: I’m a Smith!”; “God is good, all the time AND all the time God is good!”; “Good God, bad Devil, John 10:10”; and “This too shall pass
A viewing will be held Thursday, October 23rd at 4 pm and funeral at 5 pm at Fairlawn Family Church, 3003 Rhode Island Ave, Ft Pierce, FL 34947. All who knew and loved Margaret are welcome to attend to celebrate her life and legacy.
