Linda Kay Nelson, 73, passed away September 14, 2025 after a long illness. Linda was the daughter of Rodger Ernest Nelson and the late Barbara Pauline Nelson (nee Sorensen)
Born in Columbus, Wisconsin, Linda grew up in Milwaukee. She attended Bay View High School and graduated with the Class of 1970. She attended UW – LaCrosse studying physical education. She entered the U.S. Army in 1972 and served during the Vietnam War with air traffic control. She finished her duty in Heidelberg, Germany.
She continued her education at St. Petersburg College earning degrees in nursing and cosmetology. Linda was a long-time resident of Pinellas County. She was a treasured friend and mentor within the recovery community in St. Petersburg. Linda helped thousands of newcomers to find sobriety. She was best known for selflessly helping anyone in need.
Linda is survived by her father, Rodger (age 98), her beloved “Little Buddy” brother, Rodger Carl Nelson, and sisters Kristen Marie Nelson-McKenzie (Patrick) and Sue Ellen Somers (James Gregory) as well as 5 nieces and nephews, and 8 great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Pinellas County Intergroup Inc. of Alcoholics Anonymous or another charity of your choice.
Interment at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg will occur at a future date. Reverend Patrick McKenzie will preside over the final memorial service at that time.
