Born in Huntington, New York, Leo grew up on his family’s farm in Bethpage on Long Island. As a child, he enjoyed pheasant hunting on the family farm before it was sold after World War II. He graduated from Farmingdale High School, where he was a proud Daler and played linebacker on the football team, maintaining lifelong friendships with several classmates. As a teenager, he also caddied on the famed Bethpage Black Course and developed a lifelong love of golf. He enjoyed playing guitar, listening to country music, and was known by family and friends for his unique sense of humor.
Leo attended Hofstra College before embarking on a distinguished 35-year banking career. As a Vice President and commercial loan officer, he worked with notable clients including the Houston Astrodome and Braniff Airlines. Later, he transferred from Wall Street to Jericho, New York, where he became known for negotiating deals with customers on Long Island’s most exclusive golf courses. He retired at age 62 and moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where he spent his retirement playing golf and enjoying time with friends and family.
After marrying his beloved wife, Carolyn, they discovered a shared passion for sailing. Over the years, they owned several sailboats and enjoyed family vacations that included three-week cruises along Long Island Sound and trips from Greenport, New York, to the coast of Maine.
