Lawrence David “Larry” Burchard Jr.

Lawrence David “Larry” Burchard Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and craftsmanship. Larry was born on February 26, 1940, in Miami, Florida, to Lawrence David Burchard Sr. and Margaret Burchard.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1962. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Janice Fae Burchard, in 1963. They shared 46 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2009.

Larry built an extended and respected career as a diesel mechanic and foreman, working for Kelly Tractor Company and later for the United States Sugar Corporation in Clewiston, Florida. While living in Clewiston, Larry and Janice raised their three sons and were active, faithful members of First Baptist Church of Clewiston. In 1998, Larry retired to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where he discovered and devoted himself to his passion for woodworking.

A talented craftsman, Larry especially enjoyed scroll saw work and wood lathe turning. He was also an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed following the sport for many years. He was a proud member of the Treasure Coast Wood Turners Guild.

Larry is survived by his sons, Brian Burchard and wife Lisa of Cecilia, Kentucky; James Burchard and wife Diane of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Rusty Burchard and wife Tina of Charlotte, North Carolina. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren who preceded him in death but remained forever in his heart. Larry is also survived by his longtime partner, Judith Suit of Fort Pierce, Florida, and his sisters, Peggy Hall of Stuart, Florida, Evelyn Ely of Albany, Georgia, and Katherine Snell of Boynton Beach, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Fae Burchard, and two great-grandchildren.

Larry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, love of family, and the care and precision he put into everything he built — both in his career and in his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations or memorial gifts be made in Larry’s name to Treasure Coast Hospice.
