Obituary

Judy Anne Gardner, age 87, of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026.

Judy was born on April 2, 1939, in Rutland, Vermont. She grew up in Cooperstown, New York, where she developed the strong work ethic, kindness, and determination that defined her life.

She attended Syracuse University before beginning her career as a medical secretary, where she became known for her exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and genuine care for others.

In 1962, Judy married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Gardner. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love, adventure, and commitment. Over the years they lived in San Antonio, Texas; Bey-sur-Seille, France; Omaha, Nebraska; and ultimately settled in Fort Pierce, Florida, which became their cherished home.

Judy attended First United Methodist Church in Fort Pierce.

Judy devoted 33 years of her career to Indian River Junior College, beginning her service as a secretary. Through dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to students and staff, she advanced through the years to become Registrar by the time of her retirement. During her tenure, the college grew and evolved into Indian River Community College, and Judy was proud to be part of that transformation and the lives she touched along the way.

Judy also became known for training many new employees, all of whom quickly learned there was a “Judy way” of doing things. Her high standards, remarkable organization, and patient guidance left a lasting impression on generations of colleagues. Those fortunate enough to work alongside her knew that doing it “the Judy way” meant doing it right.

Judy had a warm and generous spirit. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cheering on the Florida Gators, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend whose kindness and grace will never be forgotten.
