Joseph (Joe) Patrick Greelish, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Florida and formerly a resident of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts passed away peacefully May 3, 2026 at Tradition Medical Center, after a lengthy illness, with his devoted daughter, Kathy, holding his hand.
Joseph Jr. was born to Joseph Sr. and Ann (Ahern) Greelish at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, Massachusetts. The family later relocated to South Yarmouth and raised Joe and his brothers, Steve, Jerry, Jimmy and Jack.
Joe attended Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1960. Following his graduation, he attended The Massachusetts Maritime Academy and later enlisted in the United States Air Force.
He was an Inspector with the Registry of Motor Vehicles for over 15 years. During that time, he also attended North Eastern University and Harvard School of Law earning his Degree of Juris Doctor on June 6, 1975.
He was married to his High School Sweetheart, Phyllis Ann (Whitney) Greelish on June 6, 1962 and were married for over 63 years. Joe and Phyllis went on to raise their twelve children and any other child they could “collect”.
He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, baseball and girls’ softball coach, a Boy Scout Leader, and Guardian ad Litem.
Joseph is survived by his wife and beloved Military Service Dog, “Molly”, his children, Ricky, Bridgette (Neal), Kathy (Rob), Tricia (Dean), Michael (Rachel), Betsy (Harry), Becca (Jason), Danny, and Andrew (Kourtney). They also shared 24 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. His sisters-in-law, Deirdre (Steve) and Sherry (Jack) Greelish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Ann Greelish, his in-laws, Richard and Edith Whitney, his children Joseph III (Joey), Mary Jane and Jonathan, his grandchildren, Anthony, Joseph IV (Joey) and Nathan.
Respecting his wishes, there will not be services held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
