Joseph Reilly Barnes

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Reilly Barnes, of Fort Pierce, who passed away on September 6, 2025, at the age of 70.

Reilly was born on February 24, 1955 in Muncy, Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, Margo Barnes on December 31,1975. Together, they built a strong foundation of love, faith, and devotion, raising a family that was truly the center of Reilly’s world.

Reilly is survived by his wife, Margo Barnes of Fort Pierce; sons Shannon (Melissa) Barnes of Port St. Lucie, Nick (Bonnie) Barnes of Fort Pierce, and Brandon (Gricel) Barnes of Florence, SC; daughters Kimberly Hamrick and Kristi (Kevin) Collins of Fort Pierce; as well as 10 beloved grandchildren: Nicholas, Kailee, Lauren, Eden, Karly, Camryn, Evan, Dylan, Nathan, and Gabe.

He was preceded in death by his parents Katherine Grove and David Barnes, and his brothers David Barnes and Thomas Barnes.

Family was Reilly’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. He adored being a husband, father, and “Papa,” and he cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines, sharing family dinners, or simply sitting together and telling stories, Reilly found his greatest happiness in the love and laughter of his family. His home was always filled with warmth, encouragement, and unwavering support, and his presence was a constant reminder of strength and love.

Reilly graduated from Muncy High School in Pennsylvania, where he excelled in sports including football, basketball, and tennis. His athletic talent earned him a football scholarship to West Chester State College. He later attended Florida Atlantic University in Florida and went on to dedicate 30 years of service as a teacher with the St. Lucie County School Board.

Beyond the classroom, Reilly served his community as a dedicated K-9 officer with the Sheriff’s Department for three years.

Reilly was a man of strong Christian faith, and his devotion to both God and his family was evident in the way he lived his life.

Reilly loved all sports and continued to enjoy football, baseball and golf throughout his life.

But above all, he will be remembered for his deep love of family, his strong values, and the legacy of love and faith he leaves behind.

Joseph Reilly Barnes will be deeply missed, but his love and devotion to his family will live on in their hearts forever.

Donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice in his honor.
