John Gaines Ray

John Gaines Ray, 66, of Port St. Lucie died on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at St. Lucie Hospital.

John was born on the 28th of January 1960 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of the late Dr. John George Ray Jr. and Rose Zita (Rosita) Gaines Ray.

He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force stationed at Loring AFB in Northeastern Maine as an Air Traffic Control Radar Specialist.

Throughout his life, he wore many hats. He had a pool service, was a car salesman for Bill Schultz Chevrolet in Fort Pierce, owned a landscape business with a master garden certificate, manager of Dollar General, and finally operated his own private car airport transfer service.

He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and excelled in the “gift of gab”. He was also a fantastic cook.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Maureen Helen “Moe” Lee; sister, Deborah Ann Ray of Tarboro, NC and son, Blaine Grant of Bangor, ME.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Administration or The American Cancer Society.
