Jean Ann Principe (née Torgersen), age 85, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Jean was born on July 5, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to Lars and Bridget Torgersen. She formerly resided in Stony Point, New York, and most recently made her home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
A graduate of Bay Ridge High School, Jean was an active member of the Italian American Social Club Ladies Auxiliary. She embraced life with enthusiasm and joy, finding happiness in traveling, visiting casinos, playing card games, and spending time with friends—especially over a lively game of Mah-Jongg. Above all else, Jean cherished her family and treasured the many moments they shared together.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, John Principe, Sr., of Port St. Lucie, Florida; her children, Lisa (Kevin) Gallagher, John (Loreen) Principe, Jr., Susan (Austin) Kelly, and Anthony (Patty) Principe; her grandchildren, Anthony (Charlotte) Principe, Nick (April) Principe, Amanda (Ole) Dentico, Emily Dentico, Andrew Gallagher, Leanna Gallagher, Abigail Dentico, Joseph Camden (Keelaya) Principe, Robert Principe, and Elyse Principe; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Kapri Principe. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara McKeown, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Lars and Bridget Torgersen; her brothers, Lawrence and Edward Torgersen; and her infant twins, Anthony and Judith Principe.
As we mourn her passing, we rejoice in the promise of our faith—that Jean has been welcomed home, reunited with those who went before her, and now lives forever in the light of Christ.
Jean held a special place in her heart for sick children and donated to St Jude’s often, shaped by the loss of her own twin infants. She generously allowed research on her twins, taking pride and comfort in knowing their legacy contributed to the infant RSV vaccines available today.
Jean requested donations in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 800-822-6344 or www.stjude.org
