Herbert Baxter Graham, 89, passed away in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on May 31, 2025. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 8, 1935, he lived in Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Maryland and Florida. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Louisville and later attained his PhD in meteorology while proudly serving as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, and later was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. An accomplished entrepreneur, he developed patented medical laboratory products and created prosecutor case management software. He had a passion for travel including Europe, Hawaii, Saipan, China, Oshkosh air shows, and many family trips in the United States. He had many interests and was an avid life-long learner. He had a dedicated enthusiasm for following and filming his son’s motocross races over many years, and the films are cherished and enjoyed today by many regional racers of that time. A passionate aviator, he enjoyed flying from his airpark home in Florida. He had an unwavering “can do” and “will do” spirit throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Carol (Kinsinger), his beloved parents, Herbert M. Graham and Gladys Graham, his dear siblings Rosalind Hamilton, David Graham, and Roger Graham, his devoted daughter, Krista Card, and two grandchildren Eugene Andrzejewski, III and Anna Wright.
Beginning in 1958, he shared 21 years of marriage with Carol. In 1996, he was again blessed with marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Leslie (Mattingly), with whom he shared nearly 30 wonderful years. Leslie survives Herb with many treasured moments and memories of their life together.
He is also survived by his loving sister Janice Graham, three children from his first marriage: Herbert Stephen Graham, Brenda Wright, and Linda Adams, along with his children’s spouses, and his Mattingly in-laws.
His legacy lives on through thirteen surviving grandchildren—Kristina, Sarah, Patrick, Michael, Sean, Meghan, Thomas, Emma, Timothy, Dana, Madeline, Valerie, and Carly—and eight great-grandchildren—James, Amy, William, Maximus, Alexis, Clark, Aurora, and Claire—and many nieces and nephews.
Herbert’s passion, innovation, and unwavering love for his family leave an enduring legacy, forever treasured by those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held June 10, 2025 at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
