With great sadness, we announce the passing of Harry A. Syring, Jr., who left us just days before his 79th birthday, on September 18, 2025. Born on September 29, 1946, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Harry lived a life marked by service, devotion, and a generous spirit. After living in Connecticut for many years, he and his wife later moved to Fort Pierce, Florida.

Beloved Family

Harry is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, who stood by his side through the joys and challenges of life. He leaves behind his daughter, Gail M. Syring of West Hartford, Connecticut; his sons, Allen Syring and his wife, Jennifer, of Bristol, Connecticut, and Matthew Syring and his wife, Sinikka, of Bluffton, South Carolina; stepdaughters, Kathleen Davis of Enfield, Connecticut, and Pamela Aiello of Windsor Locks, Connecticut; his sister, Elizabeth Soporowski, and her husband, John, of New Jersey; and his brothers, David Syring and his wife, Margaret, of New Jersey, and Kenneth Syring and his wife, Antoinette, of Texas.

He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Egan Syring; his father, Harry A. Syring, Sr.; and his beloved nephews, John Soporowski, Jr. and Brad Syring. His family circle, both near and far, was a source of deep pride and joy for Harry.

Service and Career

Harry devoted a significant part of his life to serving his country as a member of the United States Navy. Stationed on the Shangri-La carrier, he embodied the Navy’s core values of honor and commitment. His time in the service was marked by dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, setting the tone for the values he carried throughout his life.

Professionally, he found success as a Goodyear New England Regional Salesman and later as the owner and operator of New Dawn Computers in Glastonbury, Connecticut. In his later years, Harry contributed to his community as a school bus driver and aide in Port Saint Lucie, touching the lives of many children and families.

Community Involvement and Passions

A proud member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, Harry spent more than 30 years with the Glastonbury, Connecticut Council 2533, where he served as Past Grand Knight and was an active member of the 4th Degree team. He also served as a District Deputy and was the area Tootsie Roll Director for many years, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to charitable work and fellowship. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Harry’s passion for amateur radio was evident to all who knew him. As a devoted ham radio operator, he participated in countless Field Days, always eager to connect with others as WB1-FTQ. He also served on the Windsor, Connecticut Civil Defense team, exemplifying his dedication to community safety and service.

In his leisure time, Harry was a devoted baseball fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox. He shared this love with his wife, Nancy, faithfully cheering for his team through both heartbreak and triumph. The 1986 World Series loss was a bitter memory, but his loyalty was rewarded as he reveled in four championship victories over the past 25 years.
