Glenn Mellinger Snavely, a devoted husband, father, veteran, banker, artist, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1936, Glenn was the son of the late Abe and Anna Snavely.
A proud 1958 graduate of New Holland High School (now Garden Spot High School), Glenn continued his education at Bob Jones University in South Carolina and later attended the Walter College of Finance in Philadelphia in 1958. He answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he completed three years of active duty and two years in the reserves.
Upon returning to Lancaster County, Glenn worked for Raup Supply before beginning a successful career in banking with Lancaster County National Bank. Later he joined Farmers First Bank, which through a series of mergers became Truist Bank. Glenn dedicated many years to the banking profession and retired in 2000 as Manager of the Willow Street branch.
Throughout his life, Glenn was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Lancaster County Corvette Club and was a founding member of the Lancaster South Rotary Club, where he faithfully served as Treasurer for ten years. In recognition of his service and commitment, he was honored with the prestigious Paul Harris Award.
In his younger years, Glenn enjoyed baseball and tennis. He remained active in tennis and bowling during his years in Florida. A talented artist and craftsman, Glenn became well known for his intricate bird carvings, earning numerous awards at craft shows throughout the 1990s.
Glenn and his beloved wife, Bonita, shared a love of dancing and were often complimented on their dancing ability. They were married for 55 years.
The couple lived in Manheim Township for 14 years and Pequea Township for 28 years. Following their retirement in 2000, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean while spending winters in Florida. In 2014, they made Port St. Lucie, Florida, their permanent home.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonita Bell Snavely; his son, Brian Snavely, and wife Cindy; and numerous nieces and nephews from both the Snavely and Mellinger families, all of whom loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Snavely, and his sister, Marian Parker.
Glenn will be remembered for his humor, kindness, integrity, dedication to family, service to his community, artistic talent, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life.
