Gail Del Montier Lewis, born June 14, 1955, in Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home on April 24, 2025, at the age of 69. She moved to Fort Pierce, Florida, when she was 10 years old and made it her lifelong home.
Gail was devoted to her family, her beloved husband and soulmate of 44 years, Edward "Ed" Lewis, and their children. She adored her grandchildren, filling her home with laughter, creativity, and countless memories.
Gail had a deep love for the Florida sunshine and beaches, and she delighted in boating, fishing, and camping. She was a proud member of the Crazy Coleman Camping Club, sharing countless summer trips, holiday weekends, and Thanksgiving celebrations with her extended family of friends. Many of these trips were captured on film and distributed by founding CCC Club member Bob Hendrix, preserving those cherished memories.
An incredible artistic talent, Gail was both a master and a dabbler in many creative pursuits. She especially loved creating folk art from wood, producing beautiful pieces for her booth in the Mercantile. She also enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, beading, mosaic tile, watercolor painting, and gardening. Her passion for gardening extended to creating whimsical fairy gardens that delighted all who visited. Her garden was a haven for birds and squirrels, even attracting the rare Florida hummingbird, thanks to her carefully cultivated plants. Her backyard was truly one of her favorite places.
Above all, Gail will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and her unwavering commitment to fun and laughter. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, inviting them to come just as they were. She especially loved attending her son’s local gigs, where her presence turned every performance into a warm, social gathering.
Gail was a bright light whose legacy is one of love, creativity, and friendship.
She is survived by her loving husband, Edward "Ed" Lewis of Fort Pierce, FL; daughter, Amity (Toby) Smith; son, Andrew "Ben" (Lyndsay) Lewis, both of Fort Pierce, FL; granddaughters, Shannon Smith of Tallahassee, FL; Rhiannon Smith, Gwendolyn Smith, Annabelle Lewis, and Sawyer Lewis, all of Fort Pierce, FL; sister, Victoria Crayne; brother, Jamie Cosgrove, both of California; and Brian Del Montier of Knoxville, TN.
