Elizabeth “Liz” Barker, 74, walked into Glory peacefully on the evening of October 15, 2025, at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
Liz was born on May 10, 1951, in Fort Pierce, Florida, to Freeman H. and Julia T. Dunn. A lifelong resident of Fort Pierce, she proudly lived on the same street for 74 years. She was a graduate of Dan McCarty High School and went on to attend Fort Pierce Beauty Academy, where she earned her cosmetology license.
Liz was the proud owner of Country Girl Beauty Shop and also worked at Regis Salon in the Orange Blossom Mall. Later, she dedicated more than 35 years of faithful service as an administrative assistant at Orange Avenue Baptist Church and School.
Throughout her life, Liz found joy in the simple things—days at the beach, fishing trips, and sewing projects—but her greatest joy came from serving God through her church and school. She had a heart for children, loving them unconditionally and greeting everyone with her warm smile and caring hug. Liz often said, “My greatest accomplishments are my faith in God, my children, and my grandchildren.”
She is survived by her sister, Jean (Ray) Spivey; son, Jason W. (Janet) Lyda; daughter, Alicia (Stacey) Lyda-Tripp; grandchildren, Madisyn Kruse, Makenzie Kruse, Justin Booth, John “Drew Boo” Booth, Julie Lyda, and Graycee Fisher; and great-grandchildren, Damien Booth and Scarlette Booth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman H. and Julia T. Dunn; sister, Vivian P. (Buck) Sapp; and niece, Michelle Summerlin Smith.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, followed by a service at 6:00 PM at Orange Avenue Baptist Church, with fellowship immediately afterward in the church hall.
Food donations may be dropped off at the fellowship hall after 4:00 PM on the day of service.
