Douglas Ray Buchanan

Jul 30, 1947 — Oct 27, 2026

Douglas Ray Buchanan, 79, beloved husband of Tina Buchanan, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Doug graduated from Hollidaysburg Senior High School and attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, where he met Tina Norell. The two married in 1969 and began their lives together in Paradise, Pennsylvania, as Doug completed a degree at Lancaster Bible College.

After serving as Director of Christian Education and Youth at Grace Baptist Church Lancaster, Doug was ordained and accepted the call to pastor North Annville Bible Church in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. In 1988, he and his family joined American Mission for Opening Churches as church planters and moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to found Port St. Lucie Bible Church.

Here, he experienced his most fruitful season of ministry. In addition to preaching and shepherding, he was involved with establishing Barnabas Christian Academy. He also served as a volunteer chaplain for the Port St. Lucie Police department for 27 years, riding along with individuals on the force and caring for members of the community impacted by sudden loss or trauma.

Upon retirement from full-time ministry Doug and Tina became members of Bible Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, Florida, where Doug served as interim pastor for a season. It was also in "retirement" that he began working as an associate at Haisley Funeral Home, where he not only continued to minister to the community but also enjoyed a deep sense of purpose and camaraderie with his coworkers.

Doug loved studying Scripture, appreciating the beauty of nature, and rising early in the morning to get a jump start on the day with a cup of coffee on the back porch.

If you were to ask Doug of his legacy, he would speak of souls saved, marriages that endured, and children and family members who have persevered in the faith. If asked of his favorite memories, he would speak of hunting and camping, working on cars, taking family road trips, and spending quality time with his favorite dogs.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Nathan (Dawn), Lisa (Eric), Ruth, and Bethany; and his grandchildren, Autumn (Zac), Jonah, Lincoln, Annie, Phoebe, Grace, Kaydee, Wesley, and James; his brother, Ron Buchanan (Carol), and sister-in-law Trudy Buchanan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Geary Buchanan
