Dorothy Ruth Schwarzkopf, 91, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Dorothy was born on March 19, 1935, in Bishop, Virginia, to Daniel and Hattie Altizer. She grew up rooted in faith, family, and strong values that would guide her throughout her life. She continued her education at Catawba College in Virginia.
A woman of deep compassion and service, Dorothy was a proud member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary and faithfully served as a historian for HCA Lawnwood. She found great joy in preserving memories and contributing to her community in meaningful ways.
Dorothy’s greatest devotion was to her faith and her family. She found comfort and strength in reading her Bible and cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and the generations that followed. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and quiet wisdom—a reflection of the life she lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Hattie Altizer; her husbands, Henry Sapp Sr. and Daniel Schwarzkopf; and her grandson, Leon “Lonnie” Peterson.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Regina (Tom), Sharon, Howie (Donna), Dana (John), Sonja (Warren), and Bridgette (Chris). She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Michael, Ricky, Steven, Allison, Jason, Justin, Heather, Jennifer, Becky, Nicole, Brandon, Devin, Tara, Trevor, and Morgan, along with many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Dorothy’s life was a testament to faith, kindness, and the enduring strength of family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, followed by a service at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens to follow.
