Dorothy "Dottie" Miller

February 24, 1941 — December 18, 2025

Fort Pierce

Dorothy “Dottie” Miller was born 2/24/1941 to Rose and George Main in North Tonawanda (NT), NY. Dottie married Thomas Miller at First United Methodist Church in NT on 6/10/1961. Dottie and Tom had two children, Karen and Michael in NT. Dottie worked for the telephone company and when the family moved to Stuart, FL in 1977, she transferred to BellSouth as a customer service rep.

In 1988 Dottie and Tom moved to Fort Pierce and Dottie eventually moved into repair at the Citrus Ave. location of BellSouth where she made lifelong friends and ended up retiring a second time. She didn’t stay retired very long. She worked at Jack Frost Labs and then Bee Electronics, where she processed their international shipping; she retired from there too.

Dottie was a very giving person and volunteered in many organizations. She was a Crisis Line volunteer and Board member in Martin County for several years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers where she was active in the Clown Troupe. She would entertain people at community events, and she became very skilled at making balloon animals. She was a member of the Fort Pierce Pilot Club and ran their Bunco fundraisers for years, again making friends that faithfully visited her during her illness. Dottie loved the ocean and sea life, so she also volunteered at the St. Lucie County Aquarium’s touch tank.

An avid reader, Dottie would get books at local thrift stores and then pass the good ones on to friends and family. She also liked to work in her yard, and her orchids were a source of pride and joy for her. Every Saturday morning, she would go to breakfast with “the girls”, her friends from BellSouth and each December would have a reunion Christmas party at her house with them.

Tom died in March 2024 leaving Dottie after almost 63 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Todd) Lentz, son Michael (Lynn) Miller, grandson Thomas (Corey) Lentz, grandson Kristopher (Anastasia) Lentz, granddaughters Natalie and Allison Miller, great-granddaughter Rylee Lentz (daughter of Thomas and Corey), sister Margery Mesler, and many nieces and nephews.
