Dorothy Amanda Frein ("Dottie") August 11, 1945 – May 17, 2025
Dorothy Amanda Frein, lovingly known as “Dottie,” passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Fort Pierce, Florida, at the age of 79.
Born on August 11, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, Dottie lived a life defined by compassion, resilience, and vibrant creativity. She earned her bachelor's degree from Queens College and went on to receive a master’s degree from Hunter College. With a deep commitment to helping others, she devoted her career to social work, specializing in the field of drug and alcohol addiction, where she touched countless lives with empathy and strength.
Dottie’s adventurous spirit was matched only by her warmth and generosity. In her 30s, she took up motorcycle riding—just one example of her fearless approach to life. She was a gifted artist who found joy in creating beaded jewelry, and she was an active member of the Discovery Village community, where she served on the Residents Association and the Welcome Committee, always ready to greet new neighbors with a smile.
Though she lived in California for about a decade, Dottie’s heart was always with her family. After raising her children in New York, she later returned there to help care for her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Ultimately, she settled in Florida, where she continued to share her love, wisdom, and warmth with all who knew her.
Dottie is survived by daughters; Jeanine Werckmann of Port St. Lucie, FL, Christiane McGlade of Massapequa, NY, grandchildren; Daniel McGlade of Albany, NY, Erin McGlade of Massapequa, NY, son-in-laws; Lenny Bonfiglio of Port St. Lucie, FL, Edward McGlade of Massapequa, NY, brothers; Peter Frein, Richard Frein and Larry Frein all of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her sister Betty Lou Hanson.
Dottie’s legacy lives on in the lives of those she helped, the art she created, and the family she cherished. She will be deeply missed.
In her honor, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Planned Parenthood, two causes that were close to her heart.
May her memory be a blessing.
