Derrick Robert Abercrombie

February 6, 1982 — January 31, 2026

Fort Pierce

Derrick Robert Abercrombie passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 43. Derrick, lovingly known as D-Rock and DD, left this world far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty.

A Florida native, Derrick was born in Stuart, Florida, and was a lifelong resident of Fort Pierce. He was born to his loving father and mother, Derrell and JoAnn (Jody) Abercrombie. Derrick was a rock to them in many ways.

Derrick was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Billie Borland. He leaves behind his beloved sister Tina Borland; brother Derrell Abercrombie (Megan); niece Baillie Borland; nephew Bryce Borland; niece Jessie Abercrombie; uncles Steve Smith and Wayne Scott (April); and many loved cousins.

Derrick loved baseball from the very beginning—starting with T-ball, Little League, and American Legion, and continuing through Westwood High School, where he graduated in 2000.

One of Derrick’s greatest passions was running a grapple truck. He spent more than twenty years perfecting his craft, becoming widely regarded as one of the best operators anyone had ever worked with. Through his years on the grapple truck, he formed lifelong friendships with those who worked beside him.

Derrick loved air boating, hunting, snook fishing at Gordy Road, and duck hunting. He entertained us all with his short videos and commentary from his drone and outdoor adventures, and was jokingly known as the Snapchat king. He loved cooking on his grill(s) and sitting around a fire, whether it was hot or cold, rain or shine. Music was always playing, conversation came easily, and laughter lingered. When you popped a beer top, Derrick would say that was the sound of friendship. He was a loyal Georgia Bulldogs fan and never missed a chance to cheer on the Dawgs.

He had a great love for kids and was proud to be everyone’s Uncle DD. To his nieces and nephews, being Uncle DD was something he truly cherished. He gave everyone a nickname, a reflection of how personally he connected with those he loved.

Family gave Derrick great purpose and meant everything to him; his happiest times were always when he was surrounded by them. He showed up for the people he cared about and could always be counted on for a laugh. He was supportive and steady for those who were part of his life.

His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the storms he helped clean up, and the moments shared around a fire, a grill, through good music, and times spent out back. The mark he left will last forever.
