David Mahaffey, 69, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away on July 13, 2026, following a complicated medical course. He was born on November 28, 1956, and lived a life marked by love, kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
On May 25, 1994, David married the love of his life, Eveline Mahaffey. Together they built a life filled with love, companionship, and treasured memories.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Eveline Mahaffey of Jensen Beach, Florida; his son-in-law, Zane Dutton of Meridianville, Alabama; his cherished twin grandchildren, Kayce and Katherine Dutton of Meridianville, Alabama, who brought him immeasurable joy; Zandra Slone (Steve) of Madison, Alabama; Janet Shafer (Todd) of Huntsville, Alabama; his nephews, David Jones of Madison, Alabama, and Joshua Feemster of Huntsville, Alabama; his niece, Ashley Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; his step-sons, Mike Staggs (Tara) and John Staggs; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and the special neighbors on his street whom he held in great affection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norris and Jean Mahaffey, and by his beloved daughter, Christi Marie Dutton, who passed away in 2025. Losing Christi was the greatest heartbreak of David's life. Their bond was inseparable, and it brings comfort to those who loved them to imagine their joyful reunion in Heaven.
David attended Madison County High School and later Athens State University. He dedicated many years of service to Winn-Dixie, where he began as a store manager and later served as a logistics manager before retiring.
David found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, enjoying a round of golf, and cheering on his beloved University of Alabama Crimson Tide. If you knew David, you knew there was no bigger Alabama football fan. "Roll Tide!" was more than a phrase—it was a way of life.
Above all else, David was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. His twin grandchildren, Kayce and Katherine, brought endless smiles to his face and immense pride to his heart. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
David will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and genuinely funny man whose quick wit and warm spirit could brighten any room. He had a remarkable gift for making people smile and making everyone feel welcome. He was deeply loved by his sisters, his extended family, and his many lifelong friends.
The family extends special gratitude and recognition to David's lifelong friend, Randy Pyle, whose friendship meant so much throughout the years, and to his treasured fishing and golf companion, Alan Auer, for the many memories they shared.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, laughter, and compassion. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, his memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at later date in Huntsville, Alabama. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
