Cyndi Joy Simmons Rains, affectionately known as "Cyndo" and lovingly called "Sissy" by her grandchildren, passed away on September 27, 2026. She was 70 years old.

Cyndi was born on April 25, 1956, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, and was raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She graduated from Barbe High School in Lake Charles and later attended McNeese State University.

On May 29, 1976, Cyndi married her high school sweetheart, Glenn. Together, they built a beautiful life and celebrated 50 years of marriage. As teenagers in high school they met in study hall after Glenn teased Cyndi about her blue and orange saddle oxfords. A playful spark turned into something special. Cyndi and Glenn shared the kind of love that is rare, enduring, and everlasting. You would rarely see one without the other. They are truly soulmates and their devotion to one another is an inspiration to those who know them. Through 50 years together, they lived the promises they made to one another as young sweethearts - through richer or poorer, in sickness and in health.

Above all else, Cyndi loved her family. She was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved and took tremendous pride in her sons, Nicholas and Hyman. The apple of her eye are her grandchildren; Memphis, Sloane, and Augusta. To her grandchildren, she wasn't simply a grandmother - she was their beloved "Sissy." Sissy always gave them the biggest bear hugs followed with, "kisses all around, love you to the moon and back."

An avid sports fan, Cyndi rarely missed a ballgame involving her boys or her grandchildren. Her family could always count on her to load everyone into her Suburban and drive them wherever they needed to go. Whether she was cheering in the stands or pacing the sidelines she was always proud mama bear. Her love of sports continued throughout her life, with special affection for the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers.

Cyndi had a zest for life and loved to travel, experiencing places throughout the world. Yet her favorite travel destination was always where her heart began—back to her roots in Louisiana. She also enjoyed drawing, sewing, crafts, trivia, tennis, cooking (especially the family favorites; Chocolate Éclair and Crawfish Étouffée) and spending time with her grandchildren. More than any hobby or destination, however, it was the relationships she built and the time she spent with those she loved that defined her life.

Cyndi is the matriarch of our family. Her laugh can never be replaced, nor can her witty sense of humor—what she lovingly called her “tennis banter.” Cyndi had a gift for intentional listening. She has a way of making you feel truly seen, heard, and present in the moment. Her time was a gift and the love she gave so freely will remain with us always. We love you and miss you, our Cyndo and Sissy. We will continue to live our lives carrying your memories in our hearts and honoring the beautiful life you shared with us. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever the heart of our family.

Cyndi leaves behind a large and loving extended family stretching across Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, and beyond. She was preceded in death by her father, Hyman Simmons, her mother, Joy Simmons; and her brother, Wallace Simmons. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Glenn Rains; her sons Nicholas (Erin) Rains, and Hyman (Taryn) Rains, her beloved grandchildren, Memphis, Sloane, and Augusta; her brother, Hamp Simmons; her sister, Lucy (Jerry) Thacker; her stepmother, Jody Simmons, her stepsisters, Kathy Granger, and Julie (Kelly) Cannon, her stepbrother, Mike Sebren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 PM with a service to follow at 5:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.
