Claire Diane Caldwell (known as Diane) was born in St Louis Missouri to parents Ernest and Dorothy Reed Caldwell. Diane was their only child. They moved to Titusville Florida when Diane was approximately 2 years old. She graduated from Titusville High School in 1972. She attended FSU. Diane later moved to Ft Pierce Florida with her mother, taking care of her until she passed away.
Diane learned to sew from her grandmother, mother and aunt. For several years, Diane managed JoAnn Fabrics in Ft Pierce. Many remember her expertise in managing the store and helping in choosing fabrics for projects. After the store closed, she worked briefly in a call center. She then began working at the St Lucie County Property Appraiser’s office where she made many lifelong friends. She retired December 31, 2020.
Diane was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. As a child, her grandmother would visit the family in Florida. She would take Diane to Church and taught her about Jesus and Mary. Some years later Diane decided to attend RCIA (now OCIA) classes at St. Anastasia and became Catholic in March 2016. Her cousin Linda McGuire was her Godmother and Sponsor.
Diane attended church daily often journaling her thoughts about the daily readings and Homilies. She was very active in many ministries. Becoming Catholic herself, she began mentoring others who went through the several month process of OCIA to become Catholic at the Easter Vigil each year. She was so devoted to this Ministry and helping others. Since 2016 she mentored approximately 112 and was Godmother to 5 St. Anastasia parishioners.
She was also an active member in the Respect Life Ministry and each Friday attended a Rosary hour on the sidewalk in front of the Abortion Clinic. Diane also joined in praying the Rosary during 40 Days for Life. She loved the Theatre Ministry and was an active member in the play each year. She had many special friends in that Ministry too. She was a Lector at Sunday Masses and also volunteered in the office at St Vincent dePaul.
Diane was also so excited to travel with Father George and may Church members to the Holy Land. It truly was such wonderful experience never forgotten. In letters she wrote to her cousin, Linda, she shared that the trip was the most faithful, memorable highlight of her life.
Diane had many Church friends especially her CRHP sisters. Many of those friends (along with friends from the Property Appraiser’s office) were with her in her last weeks surrounding her with prayers and love. A few days before she passed, Father George said Mass in her room at Treasure Coast Hospice House with many CRHP sisters surrounding. She was so happy and the Holy Spirit was present that day. A friend from the Property Appraiser’s office read Psalms to her on the day she passed.
Diane was a Faithful, Humble Servant of God. She never wanted the Spotlight. She quietly served God in so many ways. Diane will be missed by many. We thank her for her gifts of Faith, Service to Others, Love and Friendship.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dorothy Reed Caldwell, Aunts Doris Gregory and Shirley Fisher, and Uncle Russell Reed.
She is survived by many cousins and family members in St Louis MO and other cities and states.
