On the night of Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the world bid farewell to a remarkable man, Charles "Charlie" Peter Anderson, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at Hendersonville Health & Rehabilitation. Born on September 6, 1939, in Manhattan, New York, Charlie lived a life full of service, adventure, and kindness that inspired everyone who had the privilege to know him.
Charlie's life was marked by dedication and bravery. After completing four years of honorable service in the United States Navy, he pursued a distinguished career with the New York City Fire Department. For 33 years, he served fearlessly, eventually retiring as Deputy Fire Chief. He often described this role as the best job he ever had, a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving the citizens of New York City.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charlie had a zest for life that was contagious. He found joy in building and racing model sailboats and airplanes, as well as exploring the world through metal detecting—a passion that earned him an induction into the Metal Detecting Hall of Fame. His travels around the globe, always in the loving company of his cherished wife, Jude "Judy" Rita Anderson, were a testament to their shared love for adventure and discovery.
Charlie was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was known for his generosity and warmth. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and mentorship, often regarded as a role model by many.
Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Hannah Anderson, his son, Charles Peter Anderson II, his step-daughter, Patricia Clark, and his sister, JoAnn, Charlie's memory lives on in the hearts of those he left behind. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Judy; his daughter, Nancy Bercik; two step-daughters, Ann Meo (Joe), and Mary Dattillo (Joseph); seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His family, friends, and countless others who had the honor of knowing him will forever cherish the warmth and generosity he shared.
A celebration of Charlie's incredible life will be held at Haisley Tribute Center, 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Florida 34984, on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, where stories of his kindness and adventures will undoubtedly be shared and cherished. Until then, we carry forward his spirit of compassion and generosity, remembering him as a true beacon of kindness and inspiration to all.
