Bill Stewart, 96, born William Henry Stewart, passed away on November 14, 2023 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Originally from Etty, KY. He moved to Florida in 1954, where he met and married Marlene Thomas of Fort Pierce, who survives him. The pair remained happily married for 68 years. He was one of eight children and was preceded in death by his parents Easter and McClellan, as well as his siblings George, John, Charlie, Susie Potter, and Ben. He is survived by his sister, Louise Hudson, and brother, Jacob Stewart. The couple had two children, Pamela Stewart (Garey Cooper) and Nick Stewart. The pair also had four grandchildren, Amanda Stewart, Jackson Stewart, and Megan de Jong (David) as well as William Stewart who preceded Bill in death. Bill had the opportunity to get to know his two great grandchildren, Kailynn-Rose and Nick “Kane”.
Bill was a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne division during World War II and was proud to serve his Country. Once he left the Army, he became a fill contractor, opening Stewart Construction, where he assisted in the early growth of Fort Pierce and the surrounding areas. Through Stewart Construction, he was active in the community. He sponsored youth sports teams, including little league and football. He was a proud member of several civic and charitable organizations in Fort Pierce, including the Civitan Club.
He and Marlene had an active and abundant life, full of adventures. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. The duo would often spend time on the Indian River Lagoon.
After he retired from Stewart Construction, he sought new hobbies, including a shared cattle operation with his son.
Bill loved life and loved his family more.
Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice or The Salvation Army.
Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. Interment will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. An online guest book may be signed at www.haisleyfuneralhome.com
