Betty Louise Rake 1938-2026

Betty Louise Rake, 88, fell asleep in death on Saturday, March 21, 2026. She was born on January 9, 1938, in Gainesville, Florida, to Harrison and Lannie Fowler. After graduating from Gainesville High School in 1956, she moved to St. Lucie County, where she built a life filled with love, family, and faith.

On January 7, 1961, Betty married the love of her life, George Rake. Their devotion to one another was evident to all who knew them. Together they raised one son, Edward, and shared 45 years of marriage until George’s passing in 2007. Betty was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 10, 1964, and her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.

Betty was known for her sassy spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her loved ones. She and George often joked that if they had known how wonderful grandchildren would be, they would have had them first. Many cherished memories were made around shared meals—especially at Olive Garden—and her love of sweets was legendary.

Even as age and circumstances made things more difficult, Betty stayed close to Jehovah. During the challenges of Covid and later years when attending meetings in person became harder, she found a way, even if it meant joining by phone.

Those who knew her best also knew there was no distance too far if it meant getting a free sample. And on Saturday afternoons, she could be found making her rounds through at least three local grocery stores, hunting down the best BOGOs with a mission. She would even muster up a fight every now and then with Tony, adding to the laughter and stories the family still shares today. These small joys were part of what made her so unforgettable.

Betty is survived by her son Ed (Suzy) Rake; her grandchildren Tony (Antonia) Rake, Amanda (Bret) Summersill, and Justin Rake; and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Rake (2007); her brother, Bernie Fowler (2008); and her grandson, Eddie Rake (2004).

A memorial talk will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Fort Pierce, located at 3535 Deberry Rd, Fort Pierce, FL 34947 at 2:30pm on Saturday, April 11th. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be available via Zoom:
