Ben H. Winters, son of Benjamin and Norma Winterbottom passed away with his loving wife and daughters by his side on March 14, 2024.
He was born on June 26, 1945 in Burlington, VT and lived in VT until he moved to Florida in 2009. Ben joined the Army in 1963 and was stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. He became a paratrooper and served as a combat vet.
He worked at VT Structural Steel in drafting and blueprints and was the union president for 6 years. He also worked as superintendent for two construction companies at IBM for 26 years. Ben worked for Greyhound for 11 years driving a run from Burlington to Montreal to Boston.
Ben enjoyed deer hunting in Vermont with family and friends and special trips to Club Du Lac De La Robe Noir in Quebec for fishing. Another favorite past-time was playing poker at deer camp and at the Cascades in Florida and casinos around the area.
Ben met his wife, Helen Walker in 1986, they were married in 2004. In retirement, they moved to Florida to enjoy the great weather and the good life. If you called Ben from Vermont and asked about the weather, he would always say blue sky, puffy white clouds, sunshine and 85 degrees.
Ben leaves behind his beloved wife Helen, two daughters, Tammy (Travis) Brousseau, of Grand Isle, VT, Tracie (Larry) Needham, of Hinesburg, VT; stepson, Brian (Jody Kiefer) Walker of Indian Trail, NC, stepdaughter Stephanie Walker of Granville, VT; five grandchildren, Tiffany Louko, Jessica Grell, Kayla Brousseau, Keith Booska, Morgan Walker; two great-grandchildren, Hailey Lockwood, and Grayson Louko, his daughters’ mother, Alice Suitor, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Benjamin and Norma Winterbottom, his sister, Janice Powers, brother-in-law Larry Powers, and his stepson Michael J. Walker.
A Celebration of Life will be held for all who knew and loved Ben on March 22, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Haisley Tribute Center, 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL.
Once cremated, ashes are to be spread at the flag on the Causeway in South Hero, VT, at a later date.
