Arthur Wilbur Hamm, Jr.

December 23, 1940 - August 26, 2023

Arthur lived a vibrant, multifaceted life defined by legacy, service and an unwavering commitment to helping others. His absolute integrity and altruism earned him the respect of the entire community.

After completing his preparatory education at Bullis, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami before honorably serving his country as a flight crewman in the United States Navy in the era of the AX (Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Technician). Following his military service, Arthur returned home to Miami waterfront to join the South Florida maritime industry, working as a yacht broker, including the refurbishment of an LCI ship alongside his father, Captain Arthur Hamm, Sr., the former co-owner of Miami’s historic Allied Marine. Arthur was an avid athlete, from football to marathons and a sport fisherman. He was a true waterman from the Florida Keys to Bimini and Maine.

The family’s deep-water canal properties became the heart of the shared family love for the water. His children grew up with long lasting memories and multi generational tradition that also extended to Bar Harbor, Maine, where his parents Arthur Sr. and Barbara owned a family home. Arthur cherished spending his summers on the Maine coast, a tradition carried forward by family.

Arthur worked for many years in business development, but his true calling always lay in his desire to serve people and build community. Right along the waterfront canal block near the Little River area, he established an award winning restaurant affectionately known as “The Good Arthur’s.” He was driven by a profound calling to help others heal, so he transitioned into the mental health field as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, MS, MFT and on the same canal block, he owned and operated The Alternative Soul Sobriety. Arthur pioneered a deeply meaningful psycho spiritual approach to wellness.

He was truly like a beacon of light in a safe harbor for countless individuals guiding families to peace and hope in the Miami community. He was a man whom people didn’t just respect - they truly, deeply loved. The overwhelming amount of love, gratitude and lives transformed through his guidance remains the greatest and most amazing testament to his legacy.

He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Woldemer Hamm Sr. of Baltiski (Paldiski), Estonia and his mother, Barbara Freethey of Brooklin, Maine. He is survived by his sister Barbara H. Rank and his children Kirsten A. Smith, Johanna L. Hamm, Artika E. Radek, Hudson H. Hamm and Hollan H. Hamm; and grandchildren Aeris A. Feinberg, Grace L. Hamm and Edgar A. Smith III.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Little River Club, 51 NE 82nd Street, Miami, FL 33138. Repast will take place at 12:30 PM-1:30 PM with fellowship to follow from 1:30-3:00 PM.
