Antoinette M.
Vachon
Jun 21, 1935 — Jul 12, 2026
Antoinette Vachon was born on June 21, 1935 in Armagh, Province of Quebec, Canada. She was the sixth of 13 children born to Georges Langlois and Marie Cadrin. Her siblings are Jeannette, Cécile, Leopold, Georges-Nerée, Aline, Oscar, André, Madeleine, Lucien, Benoit, Alphonse, and Marcel. She immigrated to the United States in 1955 to work as a candy dipper in her aunt’s chocolate candy store, Bruno Chocolate Factory in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She met her husband Ovide J. Vachon there in 1957 and together raised three children: Dominic (M.J. Murray), Madeline, and Ovide Jr. (d. 1983). She has 3 grandchildren, Christine Matusek (Louis Matusek), Nicholas Murray Vachon (Madhura Sundararajan) and Abigail Murray Vachon. She has 3 great-grandchildren, Zackery Herlong, Jonathan Herlong, and Neel Sundararajan.
Among her greatest joys was celebrating Christmas. For decades she created memorable Christmas Eve celebrations with a very decorated house in the French-Canadian tradition with wonderful food and desserts (especially pies), singing, guaranteed laughter, and presents for every single person who came. Receiving people in hospitality was one of her deep values. For many years she was widely known for making the finest orange juice in the region. She was like a wine connoisseur who could blend varieties of oranges to the best the juice could be. She made beautiful quilts and even won a Grand Champion for one at the 4-H County Fair.
A spirit of joy and laughter was the most prominent theme of her life. She was known for countless practical jokes and playful times with water balloons and water guns orchestrating the most playful times with children and adults alike. She loved dogs, birds, and the simple country life. She often said being a mother and a grandmother was the greatest joy in her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Antoinette's honor to St. Mark Catholic Church, John Carroll High School, St. Anastasia Catholic School, or Treasure Coast Hospice, organizations that reflect the values and causes that were meaningful to her.
A visitation will take place at Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 17, 2026 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1924 Zephyr Ave, Fort Pierce, FL 34982, at 10:00 AM with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens to follow.
