Anne Sutherland Nelson, 83, went to be with the Lord on December 08, 2025, following a short illness.
Anne was born in Columbia, South Carolina, and moved to Florida with her family at the age of 11. She made her home in Fort Pierce for the rest of her life. A proud graduate from Dan McCarty High School, Class of 1959, Anne met the love of her life, Dwayne Nelson, while in high school. They were married for 51 years, until his passing in 2010. She often said with a smile, that “Dwayne was the only man she had ever kissed.”
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace & Lillian Sutherland; her husband, Dwayne Nelson; and her sister Beth Sutherland Nelson. Anne and Beth shared a special bond - born on the same day, four years apart, and each marrying unrelated men who shared the same last name.
Anne is survived by her two sons, Bradley Nelson of Tampa and Kevin Nelson and his wife J.J. Henderson, of Fort Pierce; and by her brother, James Sutherland of Houston, Texas.
A devoted disciple of Christ, Anne’s faith shaped every part of her life. She was active in numerous church groups and spent 30 years ministering to female prisoners at the St Lucie County Jail. Anne worked throughout her career as a legal and judicial assistant for attorney and Judge Ben L Bryan, Jr, remaining with him until his retirement.
