Venice, Florida

Aida E. Cuevas, 81, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 25, 1945, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Aida was the beloved daughter of Blanca E. Bermudez and Emilio Mercado. She spent her early years in Caguana, Utuado, where she attended school through the middle grades. She later moved to Vineland, New Jersey, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion.

On November 15, 1972, Aida married the love of her life, Avelino Cuevas, in Vineland, New Jersey. Together they created a warm and loving home. Aida was a dedicated wife and stay-at-home mother who took immense pride in caring for her family. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support were the foundation of her household.

Aida was a woman of deep Christian faith. She found joy in reading the Bible, listening to music—especially the songs of Elvis Presley—and spending precious time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her greatest happiness came from the love she shared with those closest to her.

She is survived by her children: William Arocho (Marie) of Medford, New Jersey; Hector Arocho (Janet) of Vineland, New Jersey; and Marysol Leonetti (Lisa). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Brandon, Evan, Emily, Hector Jr., and Kristin; her cherished granddog, Lola; and her 19 great-grandchildren.

Aida is also survived by her loving sisters: Gladys Mercado of Lake Worth, Florida; Judith Cohen of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Brunilda Gonzalez (Mike, Sr.) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Isabel Lugo (John) of Vineland, New Jersey; and Ivette Varallo (Vince) of Port St. Lucie, Florida. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Vivian, Shari and Arielle, Ronni, Mike Jr., Ivelisse, Ivan, Irving, Alex, and Nicole.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Avelino Cuevas; her parents, Blanca E. Bermudez and Emilio Mercado; and her beloved grandson, Tyler William Arocho.

Aida’s legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion to family. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her strength, and the deep care she showed to everyone in her life.
