Sandra (Sandy) L. Young, 72, of Fort Pierce Florida, passed away peacefully at the
Treasure Coast Hospice House in Fort Pierce at 8:51 pm Saturday January 20, 2018 after battling multiple myeloma for more than 7 years. Sandy was born on the Eastern Shores of Virginia in Parksley to George “Peck” and Mary Louise (Smith) Watkinson on February 2, 1945.

Sandy attended Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia for three years, then she married Jerry Young on December 2, 1961 and in 1967, completed her high school through Florida Keys Junior College in Key West Florida. Sandy’s marriage to Jerry would span more than 54 years and they would share a good and full life until he passed in June of 2016. Through her marriage to Jerry, Sandy would live all over the country and overseas. In fact, 20 different moves beginning in 1961 with multiple times in Virginia Beach/Norfolk Virginia; Pleasanton, California; Key West Florida; Topendorf, Germany; Barbados; Eleuthera; Lewes, Delaware; Guam; Orlando, Florida and she would finally settle in Fort Pierce in 1983.

Throughout Sandy’s life, she worked a variety of jobs with employers including Food Town, Sears & Roebuck, Air Call of Guam & Lou Ianire’s Restaurant holding positions such as secretary, administrative assistant and bartender. It was not until 1983 when she started her career as a Membership Director for Monte Carlo County Club, now Meadowood, in Fort Pierce that she found her true calling. Sandy quickly settled into this role and it was not long before the members treated her as family. After several years at Meadowood, Sandy became the membership director for Vero Beach’s Indian River Club and developed their membership from the ground up to 100%. While Sandy held numerous positions throughout her life, her most proud position was that of a Navy Wife for nearly 27 years supporting Jerry’s U.S. Navy career. Sandy retired from the Indian River Club in 2008 and continued to enjoy life to the fullest.

Sandy enjoyed many things in life but some of her most treasured activities included painting, golf, her yard and garden and there was not a DIY project for the house that she was afraid to tackle. Sandy absolutely loved to entertain, and she is well known to all her family and friends for her tacos and margaritas. She was also an avid scuba diver and with Jerry she would dive so many beautiful places such as Truk Lagoon, Palau, Guam, Saipan, Hawaii, Bahamas and of course the Florida Keys. On that note, many trips to the Florida Keys and Bahamas crossings with her family and friends would give her countless fond memories that she would cherish.

Sandy was an extremely proud mother, grandmother and loving wife, loved and cherished by all her family and friends. Sandy is survived by her daughter, Karen wife of Kent Malcolm, Fort Pierce; son, David married to April Johns, Stuart; granddaughters Kristine, Nicole and Madison and grandson Mason; and her great-granddaughter Ashley.
