Robert Norman Vanderhoof Sr.

May 19, 1928 — April 24, 2019

Robert Norman Vanderhoof Sr. died April 24th 2019 in Port St. Lucie, Florida at Treasure Coast Hospice. He was born to Harold and Lillian Rose (Caro) Vanderhoof on May 19th, 1928 in Newark, New Jersey, which continued a Vanderhoof family lineage that began in and around Essex County, New Jersey in 1803.

His first marriage to Lois Jane Dannheimer (d. February 15, 1992 in Boca Raton, Florida) in Orange, New Jersey, on December 5, 1953, reaped five beautiful children, of which he is survived by today – Robert Norman Jr. 64, Paul, 63, Michael, 61, Mary, 59, and Melissa, 56 all born in New Jersey.

On October 9, 1993 he married and is survived by Rosalyn Mary (Sepka).

Additionally, he is survived by 8 grandchildren – Jessica, Paul (d. 2017), Dawn, Chloe, Colton, Meghan, Jacob, and Steven II.

An avid fisherman, he spent his free time on his boat following the birds on the Atlantic Ocean. He always said this was the way he found the fish – and finding the fish was his specialty – always coming home with a catch, even when others caught nothing. Prolific in the art of meat cutting, he spent his life working in South Florida’s most trusted grocery stores bringing his mastery of this time- honored trade to the masses. Always willing to trip the light fantastic – reminding us of Fred Astaire – we will miss you Pop.

“Fish,' he said softly, aloud. 'I'll stay with you until I am dead.”
Santiago – The Old Man and The Sea, Ernest Hemingway
