Richard Kenneth Davis

February 17, 1930 — July 13, 2018

Richard Kenneth Davis, born Feb 17, 1930, peacefully went to his eternal home with Jesus on July 13, 2018. He accomplished many things, but he stated his greatest accomplishment was marrying and sharing a life with his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Ragland Bowers. They were married for 64 years. They have two children: Douglas F. Davis (Sue), of Ft. Pierce, and Susan D. Dixon (Rick), of Westville, FL.

His parents were French and Ethel Davis of Beckley, WV, where he was born and raised. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and continued his education at West Virginia University graduating with a BS in Business Administration. Richard served as a 1st Lieutenant Platoon Leader for the Army in the 25th Infantry Division and received his Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star for Valor while serving in Korea.

Richard and Nancy moved to Fort Pierce in 1959 and started Richard K. Davis Construction Corp. which continues to be a leading commercial construction company in the area. Taking on the Treasure Coast franchise for Butler Manufacturing pre-engineered metal buildings, Richard succeeded in being recognized as the Southeast Regions Builder of the Year twice and acted as their Advisory Council Chairman between 1984and 1986. Projects such as the original Indian River Presbyterian Church, Fort Pierce River Walk Community Center, Backus Gallery and Manatee Observation and Education Center are surviving testaments to his professional talent.

He was also active in the following local civic and business organizations: Rotary Club of Ft. Pierce, St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce President 1968-69; served on numerous planning, zoning, and contractor licensing boards, Florida National Bank and Harbor Federal Savings Bank Board of Directors 1978-2000 and Bible Lands Association - original founding chairman.

He loved his Lord Jesus Christ by living his faith and was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church in Ft. Pierce and Banner Elk Christian Fellowship in Banner Elk, NC.

Survivors include his two children, five grandchildren; Sarah Young (Paul) of ND, Daniel Dixon (Kristina), of Ft. Pierce, Haley, Mariah and Nathan Davis of Ft. Pierce and six great grandchildren (with another one due within weeks); two sisters, Helen Jackson of Beckley, WV, and Jessie Dew of Ghent, WV; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family both in FL and WV. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy, his parents, and his sister, Ann Montgomery of OH.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Hospice or Bible Lands Association, (PO Box 186, Ft. Pierce FL 34954).
