Philip Lee Scott

December 30, 1938 — February 26, 2021

Philip Lee Scott, beloved husband of Nancy, passed away peacefully at 1:10 AM on February 26, 2021 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce, FL.

Phil, 82, was born December 30, 1938 in Anderson, IN to Sidney and Betty Scott, and grew up on Grand Lake in Celina, OH, where his family ran Scotty’s Beauty Beach. He graduated from Celina High School in 1956.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph from 1956-1959 and kept in touch with some of his shipmates over the years.

Phil married Nancy (Dunlap) in 1974 and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage, traveling extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Phil was particularly fond of their time spent with the Wood family on their sailboat in the Abacos, Bahamas, and of family vacations in Hope Town, Bahamas.

He worked as a graphic designer at Marathon Oil Company in Findlay, OH for 24 years and retired in 1992. After their retirement, Phil and Nancy spent many happy years in their retirement home on Coldwater Lake, MI, where they enjoyed early morning kayaking and spending time with friends and family. Phil had an especially close relationship with his nieces and nephews. Special times included setting off “Screaming Trees” (pinwheels) for the children on the Fourth of July, watching the stunning lake association fireworks each year from the boat out on the lake, family gatherings around the fire pit, and sunset boat rides with friends.

In 2017, they moved to Ocean Village in Fort Pierce, FL, where Phil loved beachcombing, watching the ocean and wildlife from their condo, and taking hikes through local preserves. He loved exploring his environment and sharing nature discoveries with his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, and he remained an avid nature photographer. He was a master of the double entendre and loved crab legs, roller coasters, fireworks, and telling jokes. He was also known for his green thumb, beautiful house plants, and landscaping.

Phil was known as a kind and happy person who always had time to help someone or to stop and chat. He had many hobbies over the years, including photography, scuba diving, fine woodworking, and model ship building, and was a perfectionist in all he did. He loved watching animal and nature TV shows, “surfing” on his iPad, coconut rum cocktails, and the music of Barefoot Man.

Phil had two children from a previous marriage, a daughter Michelle (Jerry) Thompson of Kingston, TN, and a son, Timothy (deceased), as well as a brother, David (deceased), 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

Memorials may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Ft. Pierce, FL 34981.
