Philip "Paw-Paw" H. Lott

January 27, 1948 — October 2, 2019

Philip Henry Lott was born January 27, 1948 in Midland, Pennsylvania, while his father was auditing Boeing Air. Phil spent most of his youth in Columbus, Ohio with his big brother Stan, six years his senior. Despite the age difference, Stan loved and cared for his brother and referred to him as “The Kid.” When Phil was away at summer camp Stan served as his camp counselor.

Phil enrolled at the Foreman School in Litchfield, Connecticut at the time the family moved south to Palm Beach. After two years, he lettered in tennis and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated where he modeled the new year-round domed courts. However, when he and a classmate took an unauthorized trip to NYC, it was decided that maybe Phil wasn’t Foreman material.

After briefly living in Palm Beach with his mom and step-dad, Phil moved to Louisiana to live with Bill and Sue Brannan to be nearer his brother who was attending Nicholls State University.

Phil finished high school in Napoleonville, LA where he met many lifelong friends along with his future wife, Betty.

He then was awarded a scholarship in Tennis for Nichols. But, of course, Phil being Phil, he was asked to leave after being caught smoking and refusing to wear socks.

After marrying his high school sweetheart he began a career as an Electrician and later formed a contracting business with his beloved father-in-law, Thomas Carmouche, and brother-in-law, “Big” Rick Landry.

In 1984, Philip moved his family to Fort Pierce just six weeks after their third son was born, to begin work with his brother in the Security Alarm business.

After retiring from a twenty-five year career in the security and alarm business, Phil started his second career as full-time Paw-Paw and “on call” driver who dropped Betty at work and chauffeured his loving Granddaughters around town.

Phil was a tease, a rascal, lover of gadgets, and pleasure boater. He spent many hours tinkering on electronics, cars, and made small repairs for his boys and their friends, many of whom call him to this day, Papa Lott.

Phil’s best friend, Bobby Guettler, introduced him to motorcycles which later evolved into an interest in power scooters. He could be often seen in his neighborhood riding around.

Phil, Betty and the MLG (Mighty Lott Girls) took many family trips, including trips to Disney, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Celeste, Bella, Mary-Alice and Mattie often affectionately called their Paw Paw “Phil” in imitation of their Maw Maw.
