Peter Francis Guettler

Peter Francis Guettler, known to loved ones as “Pete”, 85, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 27 ,2017, with family by his side, in Fort Pierce, FL.

Born in 1932 to Rosalie Catherine, and raised in Fort Pierce, the son of Leo and Ida (McCall) Guettler, he was a lifelong native of Saint Lucie County. Pete was born 3rd out of a family of 16 children who, most of which, currently reside in Chipley, FL.

In 1952, Pete was drafted in to the United States Army at the age of 20. He was a decorated veteran of the Korea Conflict Era, earning honors such as a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, & a Purple Heart Medal. After two years of military service, Pete was honorably discharged due to injury.

After serving in the military, Pete married his late wife of 49 years, Faye Ann Guettler and soon after had seven children. He worked for the Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Norvel as a Deputy, as well as working for Florida Power & Light doing ground maintenance for many years before starting his family contracting business, Guettler & Sons. He also had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most powerful people in politics, including the former President of the United States, George W. Bush.

Pete & his family were longtime members of Saint Anastasia Catholic Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Pete had a passion for life that was contagious and was well known around town.

Pete is survived by his seven children: Frances [Robert] Hutchinson, of Ft. Pierce, FL, Phillip [Delane] Guettler, of Ft. Pierce FL, Judy (Rob) Fox, of Ft. Pierce, FL, David [Chrissy] Guettler, of Dahlonega, Ga., Ramona [Glen] Chambley, of Clayton, Ga., Fredrick Guettler, of Dillard, Ga., & Sandra [Stuart] Shipe, of Ft. Pierce, FL. Preceded in death by his wife, Faye Ann Guettler, son, Thomas Guettler, and great-grandson, Tommy “Hawk”. Pete is also survived by his loving 47 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren with 5 on the way.

A visitation will be held at Haisley Hobbs Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 4-6 pm. A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at Saint Anastasia Catholic Church in Fort Pierce, FL on Saturday, December 2 ,2017 at 11:00 AM. Following the service will be a burial at White City Cemetery.
